Description of product typologies
Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese PDO has a pale ruby-red colour with possible orange highlights; the nose offers evident notes reminiscent of redcurrant, sour cherry and brushwood; it is dry and smooth on the palate, with a light and pleasant bitter aftertaste. It can display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone a minimum aging period of 24 months, of which at least 6 months must be in wood, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. The vinification processes of Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese PDO wines must be carried out within the production area; however, taking traditional circumstances into consideration, these operations may also be carried out across the entire Province of Pavia, as well as in the districts of Vicobarone and Casa Bella in the Municipality of Ziano Piacentino, in the Province of Piacenza.
The Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese PDO is distinguished by the mandatory combined presence on the bottle of the collective mark and the Pinot Nero dell’Oltrepò Pavese designation.
