The Lazio PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé, White Spumante, Red Spumante, Rosé Spumante, White Passito, Red Passito, Rosé Passito, White Late Harvest, Red Late Harvest, Rosé Late Harvest and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Description of product typologies
Lazio PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from yellow to golden or greenish-yellow; the nose offers varying degrees of floral and fruity aromas based on the different grape varieties used; it is dry and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Lazio PGI Rosso is red, varying in depth, tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose is delicate, revealing characteristic fragrances of red fruit traces of spices, aromatic herbs, with balsamic complexity deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry and velvety on the palate, with good body. It can also be semi-sparkling or Novello wine. Lazio PGI Rosato is cherry-pink, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Lazio PGI Spumante Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is light, limpid straw-yellow and has a fine and persistent perlage; the aroma is characteristic of the grape variety; it is harmonious on the palate. Lazio PGI Spumante Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is deep ruby red and has fine, persistent foam; the nose is intense and characteristic; it is harmonious and balanced on the palate. Lazio PGI Spumante Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in intensity, with purple reflections and a fine, persistent perlage; the nose is pleasant and elegant; it is harmonious on the palate. Lazio PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from yellow to amber, based on the age of the wine; the nose offers a string of fruity sensations; it is sweet and sapid on the palate. Lazio PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red, varying in intensity and tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose is intense and characteristic; it is sweet, harmonious and velvety on the palate. Lazio PGI Vendemmia Tardiva Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is golden-yellow; it is intense and characteristic on the nose; the palate is pleasant and velvety. Lazio PGI Vendemmia Tardiva Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red, varying in depth and tending towards garnet red; it offers intense and characteristic aromas on the nose; it is harmonious and embracing on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Lazio PGI with specification of one of the varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lazio region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Lazio PGI with the specification of two or three grape varieties is reserved for wines obtained from grapes from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of the corresponding varieties, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from grapes produced by the two or three specified varieties; the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two varieties must in any case be greater than 15% of the total. The grape variety specifications must appear on the label in descending order with respect to the actual percentage of grapes obtained from them. Lazio PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
