The Villamagna PDO is reserved exclusively for Red wine.
The production area of Villamagna PDO is within the entire territory of the Municipality of Villamagna and parts of the municipalities of Bucchianico and Vacri in the Province of Chieti, in the Abruzzo region.
Red (incl. Riserva): min. 95% Montepulciano, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 5%.
Description of product typologies
Villamagna PDO has an intense ruby-red colour, tending towards garnet with aging; the nose is fruity and intense; it is dry, full and harmonious on the palate. It can display Riserva on the label after a period of aging and maturing which concludes November 1st of the second year following that of the grape harvest. Villamagna PDO must be aged and matured for a minimum period of time and can be made available for consumption from September 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.The vinification, mandatory aging, bottling, maturing in bottles and packaging processes must take place within the production area, although these operations may also be carried out within the entire territory of the Abruzzo region.
The Villamagna PDO designation can be followed by Vigna (Vineyard) with the relative toponym.
