The Venezia PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: Semi-Sparkling White, Red, Rosé, Spumante and Rosé Spumante; White (only with indication of grape variety). The Designation also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Venezia PDO is within the entire territory of the provinces of Venice and Treviso, in the Veneto region.
Blends
Semi-Sparkling White, Spumante: min. 50% Verduzzo Friulano and/or Verduzzo Trevigiano and/or Glera, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 50%.Red: min. 50% Merlot, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 50%. Rosé (incl. Semi-Sparkling), Rosé Spumante: min. 70% Raboso Piave and/or Raboso Veronese, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 30%.
Description of product typologies
Venezia PDO Bianco Frizzante is straw-yellow in colour with fine and elegant foam; the nose reveals dense fragrances of white and yellow flowers, freshly cut grass and fresh fruit; it is dry to semi-sweet on the palate with a persistent and harmonious flavour reminiscent of the nose. Venezia PDO Rosso has a ruby-red colour, tending towards garnet with aging; the nose emanates floral and fruity aromas of rose, pansy and ripe cherry; it is structured, harmonious and velvety on the palate, with intense fruity and spicy notes. Venezia PDO Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity; the nose releases fresh fragrances of red fruit and petals; it is ample, delicate and persistent on the palate, with jammy aromas of rose and blackberry. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Venezia PDO Spumante is straw-yellow in colour, varying in intensity, with fine and persistent foam; the nose is delicate and rich with suggestions of saline and fruit; it is harmonious and fresh on the palate, with a flavour that ranges from brut to demi-sec. Venezia PDO Spumante Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity, with delicate and persistent foam; the nose bursts with fragrances of raspberry and rose, together with a delicate hint of yeast; it is fresh and harmonious on the palate, ranging from brut to demi-sec. Venezia PDO Bianco with indication of grape variety has the organoleptic characteristics that are typical of the grapes and terroir of origin. Venezia PDO Rosé wine is obtained through the smooth pressing of the grapes followed by a short maceration in order to ensure the colour of the wine. The vinification and elaboration processes of Venezia PDO Spumante and Frizzante wines must take place within the Veneto region and within the territory of the municipalities of Udine and Pordenone.
Grape variety specifications
The Venezia PDO may display the specifications of the following grape varieties. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. From red grape varieties: min. 85% Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
Additional specifications
Reference to the colour of Venezia PDO Rosso, Spumante Bianco and Frizzante Bianco must be left off the label.
