Production Area
The production area of Valle del Tirso PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Baratili S. Pietro, Cabras, Milis, Narbolia, Nurachi, Ollastra, Oristano, Palmas Arborea, Riola Sardo, S. Vero Milis, S. Giusta, Siamaggiore, Solarussa, Tramatza, Zeddiani and Zerfaliu in the Province of Oristano, in the Sardinia region.
Description of product typologies
Valle del Tirso PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from paper-white to amber-yellow; the nose is rich with floral and intense floral and fruity fragrances; it is fresh, lively and intense on the palate, offering flavours varying from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Valle del Tirso PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, varies from soft ruby red to garnet red; the nose reveals a wide range of fruity, balsamic and spicy sensations; it is well-structured and complex on the palate, persistent in the dry to sweet wines. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Valle del Tirso PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from pale to deep pink; the nose is rich with floral sensations and delicate hints of small berries; it is dry and harmonious on the palate, fresh in the dry to sweet wines. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Valle del Tirso PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is more or less ruby red with purplish reflections; the nose burst with delicately fruity notes; it is fresh on the palate, with a flavour ranging from dry to medium-sweet.
Grape variety specifications
The Valle del Tirso PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, excluding the Cannonau, Carignano, Girò, Malvasia, Monica, Muscat, Nasco, Nuragus, Semidano and Vermentino grape varieties, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Valle del Tirso PGI wines with specification of one of the grape varieties can also be produced as semi-sparkling and Novello, the latter only for wines obtained from red grape varieties. Valle del Tirso PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
