Description
The Valcamonica PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red and Passito. The Indication also incorporates two grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Valcamonica PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Brescia, in the Lombardy region.
Description of product typologies
Valcamonica PGI Bianco is straw-yellow with greenish reflections; the nose offers fragrances of kiwi, lime and almond; it is dry and energetic on the palate, with a fruity finish enhanced by acidity that stimulates the persistence of the flavour. Valcamonica PGI Rosso is ruby red with light garnet-red hues; the nose reveals slightly aromatic sensations, a blackcurrant and black cherry fruitiness and hints of pepper and brushwood; it is smooth on the palate, with taut tannins and good structure and persistence. Valcamonica PGI Passito is straw-yellow with golden reflections; the nose is intense, rich with complex fruity notes, and offers embracing hints of ripe apricot; it is sweet, smooth, harmonious and velvety on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Valcamonica PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Valcamonica PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
