The Trexenta PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Trexenta PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Barrali, Gesigo, Guamaggiore, Guasila, Mandas, Ortacesus, Pimentel, Samatzai, Selegas, Senorbi, Siurgus Donigala, Suelli, S. Basilio and S. Andrea Frius in the Province of Sud Sardegna, in the Sardinia region.
Description of product typologies
Trexenta PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is straw-yellow with golden reflections; the nose reveals fruity and aromatic sensations of pear and thyme; it is medium-structured, sapid and minerally on the palate, with types ranging from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Trexenta PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of variety, is ruby red, tending to turn a more intense red over time; the nose is rich with fragrances reminiscent of sour cherry, cassis and dried roses; it is robust and smooth on the palate with well-balanced tannins, ranging from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Trexenta PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of variety, ranges from pale rose petal-pink to coral pink; the nose displays fragrances of dried flowers and cut grass; it is fresh, smooth and fruity on the palate. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Trexenta PGI Novello, alone or with specification of variety, is vivid red with crimson reflections; the nose offers fruity fragrances; in the dry to medium-sweet wines, the fruity notes of the nose return on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Trexenta PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, excluding the Cannonau, Carignano, Girò, Malvasia, Monica, Moscato, Nasco, Nuragus, Semidano, Vermentino and Vernaccia varieties, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardina region can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Trexenta PGI wines with the specification of one of the grape varieties can also be produced as semi-sparkling and Novello, the latter only for wines obtained from red grape varieties. Trexenta PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
