Production Area
The production area of Terre dell’Alta Val d’Agri PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Viggiano, Grumento Nova and Moliterno in the Province of Potenza, in the Basilicata region.
Description of product typologies
Terre dell’Alta Val d’Agri PDO Rosso is ruby red, tending towards garnet red; the nose displays various hints of fruit, with evident fresh jammy blackberry and plum and spicy undertones; it is full-bodied and full on the palate, consistent when the wine is young, becoming smoother and more refined with ageing and developing fragrant sensations and a vibrant tannin. It can display Riserva on the label if the wine has been aged for a mandatory period of 24 months, commencing November 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced, of which at least 6 months must be in wood. Terre dell’Alta Val d’Agri PDO Rosato is deep pink; the nose bursts with floral sensations and fresh fruit; it is fresh, vibrant and delicately fruity on the palate. Terre dell’Alta Val d’Agri PDO Rosso and Terre dell’Alta Val D’Agri Rosato wines may display light woody hints if they are produced in wooden recipients. Before being released for consumption, Terre dell’Alta Val d’Agri PDO Rosso wines must be aged for 12 months, commencing November 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced; Terre dell’Alta Val d’Agri PDO Rosato wines can be released for consumption from March 1st of the year following that of the grape harvest.
