The production area of Terre del Volturno PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Caserta and Naples, in the Campania region.
Blends
White, red and rosé wines with the Terre del Volturno PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more grape varieties similar in colour and suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Caserta and Naples.
Description of product typologies
Terre del Volturno PGI Bianco is straw-yellow in colour, varying in intensity; the nose reveals fragrances of Williams pear, Reinette apple, grapefruit, white melon and hawthorn; it is smooth, fruity and balanced on the palate, tending towards sapid-tart. It can also be produced as Semi-Sweet, Semi-Sparkling and Passito wine. Terre del Volturno PGI Rosso has a ruby-red colour, varying in intensity and tending towards garnet with aging; the nose displays fragrances of prune and cranberry, with sensations of woods and hints of clove, rose and violet; it is juicy on the palate, with a tannic vein that is supported by acidity and a long, persistent fruity finish. It can also be produced as Semi-Sweet, Semi-Sparkling and Passito and Novello wine.Terre del Volturno PGI Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity and at times tending towards salmon; the nose reveals notes of Dog rose, pomegranate and citrus fruit; it is well-structured and fresh on the palate, with a sapid finish. It can also be produced as Semi-Sweet and Semi-Sparkling wine.
Grape variety specifications
The Terre del Volturno PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lazio region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Non-aromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Terre del Volturno PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
