The Sibiola PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Sibiola PGI is within the territory of the municipalities of Serdiana and Soleminis in the Province of Sud Sardegna, in the Sardinia region.
Description of product typologies
Sibiola PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from paper-white to yellow-amber; the nose reveals evident floral notes of broom and jasmine, intertwined with vegetal sensations and hints of delicate fruit, Mediterranean scrub and brine; it is warm on the palate, with significant structure, but also offering a fresh, tart note and a range of sensations from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Sibiola PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, tending towards garnet red with ageing; the nose offers fragrances reminiscent of leather and wet soil, on a background of fruity and floral sensations; it is fleshy, smooth and warm on the palate, with good persistence, a fruity finish and a range of sensations from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Sibiola PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is various shades of pink right through to coral; the nose reveals fragrances of flowers, small berries, blueberry and broom; it is fresh, smooth and yet intense on the palate, with salty and minerally undertones and a range of sensations from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine. Sibiola PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red with purplish reflections; the nose offers fruity notes; the flavour ranges from dry to medium-sweet.
Grape variety specifications
The Sibiola PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Sardinia region, with the exception of the Cannonau, Carignano, Girò, Malvasia, Monica, Moscato, Nasco, Nuragus, Semidano, Vermentino and Vernaccia varieties, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Sibiola PGI wines with specification of one of the grape varieties can also be produced as semi-sparkling wine, as well as Novello for wines obtained with red grape varieties. Sibiola PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
