The Savuto PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red and Rosé.
Production Area
The production area of Savuto PDO wine is situated within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Catanzaro and Cosenza, in the Calabria region.
Blends
White: min. 40% Mantonico, max. 30% Chardonnay, max. 20% Greco Bianco, max. 10% Malvasia Bianca, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 45%. Red (including Classico, Superiore), Rosé: max. 45% Gaglioppo (locally known as Arvino), max. 45% Aglianico, max. 10%, individually or combined, Greco Nero, Nerello Cappuccio, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 45%.
Description of product typologies
Savuto PDO Bianco has an intense straw-yellow colour, at times with greenish highlights; the nose displays fragrances of apple and pear, combined with sensations of Mediterranean scrub on a mineral structure rich with aromatic herbs; it is full, intense and delicately sapid on the palate.Savuto PDO Rosso has an intense ruby-red colour; the nose reveals sensations of cherry and blackberry that that are joined by hints of brushwood, liquorice and rhubarb; the palate displays good body and silky and embracing tannins.It can display Classico on the label and Superiore if the wine has been aged for a minimum period of three years, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced.Savuto PDO Rosé has a smooth pink colour; the nose is delicate with fresh fruit and floral notes; it is harmonious on the palate, with well-balanced sapidity and freshness and good body. It can display Classico on the label.
