Description
The Rubicone PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé (incl. sparkling and semi-sparkling wines), Spumante, Spumante Rosé, Passito Rosso, Novello and partially fermented grape Must. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Rubicone PGI is within the entire territory of the provinces of Forlì-Cesena, Ravenna and Rimini, and that of the municipalities of Borgo Tossignano, Casal Fiumanese, Castelguelfo, Castel San Pietro Terme, Dozza, Fontanelice, Imola, Medicina, Mordano and Ozzano Emilia in the Province of Bologna, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Blends
White, red and rosé wines with the Rubicone PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more red or white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.
Description of product typologies
Rubicone PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of variety, is straw-yellow in colour; the nose is rich, with floral and fruity hints, depending on the varietal composition; it is intense and fresh on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet, with the same fruity and floral sensations of the nose. It can also be produced as Vivace (Slightly Sparkling) and Frizzante (Semi-Sparkling) wine. Rubicone PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is varies shades of ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose displays fragrances of red fruit, varying in levels of ripeness, accompanied by floral and spicy sensations, depending on the varietal composition and the cultivation area; it is lively and pleasantly smooth on the palate, with balanced acidity and ranging from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as Vivace and Frizzante wine. Rubicone PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity and tone; the nose is dominated by fruity notes; it is pleasantly smooth and fresh, sapid and persistent on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as Vivace and Frizzante wine. Rubicone PGI Spumante, alone or with specification of grape variety, has a straw-yellow colour; the nose opens with fresh floral and fruity notes that lead to hints of bread crust, varying in intensity according to the amount of time on the lees; it is fresh and generally sapid on the palate, ranging from brut nature to sweet. Rubicone PGI Spumante Rosato is pink in colour, varying in intensity and tone, and has a fine and consistent perlage; the nose displays floral and fruity notes with the aromas typical of aging on the lees; it is fresh and sapid on the palate, ranging from brut nature to sweet. Rubicone PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety (Malbo Gentile, Uva Longanesi, Sangiovese), is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose reveals fruity notes, varying in levels of ripeness, accompanied by floral hints and spicy notes; it is fresh on the palate and balanced in the typologies ranging from dry to sweet. Rubicone PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, has a bright ruby-red colour; the nose is vinous with strong fruity notes; it is pleasantly smooth and acidic on the palate. For the typologies in the partially fermented grape Must category, on consumption the characteristics must correspond to those described above for the relative wines, although the taste is always sweet.
Grape variety specifications
The Rubicone PGI wines with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Non-aromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Rubicone PGI wines with the specification of one or two grape varieties can also be produced in the following typologies: Vivace and Frizzante for white, red and rosé wines; Novello for red wines; partially fermented grape Must for red, white and rosé wines; Passito Rosso for red wines made with the Malbo Gentile and Uva Longanesi grape varieties; Spumante, exclusively for white and rosé wines. Rubicone PGI wines with specification of grape variety, must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
