Description
The Ravenna PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé (all of which can be Vivace or Frizzante), White Spumante, Rosé Spumante, Red Passito, Novello and partially fermented grape Must. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

The production area of Ravenna PGI is within the entire territory of the Province of Ravenna, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Description of product typologies
Ravenna PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow, varying in intensity; the nose offers varying degrees of fruity fragrances depending on the grape varieties used; it is ranges from dry to sweet or sapid on the palate. It can also be produced as a Vivace (slightly sparkling) or Frizzante (semi-sparkling) wine. Ravenna PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate, with fruity notes of various degrees of ripeness accompanying spicy and floral notes, usually pansy, depending on the composition of the varieties and the cultivation area; it is pleasantly smooth and acidic on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet. It can also be produced as a slightly sparkling or semi-sparkling wine. Ravenna PGI Rosato is various shades of pink, varying in tone intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is fresh on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. It can also be produced as a slightly sparkling or semi-sparkling wine. Ravenna PGI Spumante Bianco is straw-yellow and a has fine, persistent perlage; the nose bursts with fresh floral and fruity notes accompanied by sensations of bread crust, which vary in intensity depending on the length of time on the lees; it is fresh on the palate, tending towards sapid and ranging from brut nature to sweet. Ravenna PGI Spumante Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; the nose bursts with floral and fruity notes, accompanied by aromas associated with the length of time on the lees; it is fresh and sapid on the palate, ranging from brut nature to sweet. Ravenna PGI Passito Rosso is ruby red, varying in intensity; the nose displays fruity notes, with various degrees of ripeness, accompanied by floral notes and at time spicy ones; it is characteristic and balanced on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet. Ravenna PGI Novello is a vivacious ruby red colour; the nose displays the typical fruity fragrances of must; it is pleasantly smooth on the palate, with balanced acidity. Artificial gasification is forbidden in the production of Ravenna PGI Frizzante wines. For the partially fermented grape Musts, the characteristics must correspond to those described above for the relative wines, although the flavour is always sweet.
Grape variety specifications
The Ravenna PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Ravenna PGI wines with specification of one of the authorised grape varieties can also be produced as: Vivace or Frizzante for white, red and rosé wines; Novello, only red wines; Spumante, only white wines; partially fermented grape Must for red, white and rosé wines. Ravenna PGI with the specification of two grape varieties is reserved for the relative wines, including Vivace and Frizzante wines; Spumante, only white wines; Novello, only red wines; partially fermented grape Must for red, white and rosé wines. Ravenna PGI wines with specification of grape variety, must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
