The Quistello PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
Production Area
The production area of Quistello PGI is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Quistello, Quingentole, San Giacomo delle Segnate and San Giovanni del Dosso in the Province of Mantua, in the Lombardy region.
Description of product typologies
Quistello PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow in colour; the nose is pleasing, offering aromas of peach, pineapple, apple and wisteria; it is typical and full on the palate, at times mouth-filling. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Quistello PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red to garnet in colour; the nose is displays notes of cherry, blueberry, cocoa, Mediterranean scrub and sweet spices; it is smooth and sapid on the palate, with balanced tannins and fruity returns. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Quistello PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; the nose offers fragrances of flowers, violet and fresh fruits of the forest; it is dry, sapid and smooth on the palate, with a fruity finish. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Quistello PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, has a bright red colour; it is fruity and pleasing on the nose, typical of a young wine; the palate is fresh and dry with fruity returns.
Grape variety specifications
The Quistello PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, with the exclusion of the Tocai grape variety, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. unaromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Quistello PGI wines with specification of one of the authorised grape varieties can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling and, limitedly to red wines, Novello. Quistello PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
