Description of product typologies
Provincia di Mantova PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow in colour; the nose is pleasing, harmonious, floral and fruity with hints of white fruit; it is typical and full on the palate, at times mouth-filling. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Provincia di Mantova PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity and at times and tending towards garnet; the nose is full and harmonious, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with good body. It can also be produced as Sweet, Semi-Sweet and Semi-Sparkling wine. Provincia di Mantova PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it is delicately fruity and pleasing on the nose; the palate is dry, harmonious and balanced. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Provincia di Mantova PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour; the nose is intense and pleasing, rich with fruity notes and the typical sensations of a young wine; it is dry and fresh on the palate. Provincia di Mantova PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow to amber in colour depending on the age of the wine; the nose bursts with notes of ripe white fleshy fruit, caramel and honey; the palate displays good mineral content, typical of a well-structured wine. Provincia di Mantova PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red to garnet in colour; the nose is intense and typical of dried fruit; it is characteristic and balanced on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Provincia di Mantova PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Non-aromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Provincia di Mantova PGI with the specification of a black grape variety can also be produced as Novello wine.Provincia di Mantova PGI wines with the specification of a grape variety can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling or Passito wine.Provincia di Mantova PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
