Provincia di Mantova PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow; the nose is pleasant and harmonious, with floral and fruity hints of white fruit; it is typical and full on the palate, at times mouth-filling. It can also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Provincia di Mantova PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red, varying in intensity and at times tending towards garnet red; the nose is full and harmonious, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with good body. It can also be produced as a sweet, semi-sweet or semi-sparkling wine. Provincia di Mantova PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink, varying in intensity; it is delicately fruity and pleasant on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and balanced on the palate. It can also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Provincia di Mantova PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby red; the nose is intense and pleasant, rich with fruity notes and the typical sensations of a young wine; it is dry and fresh on the palate. Provincia di Mantova PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow to amber depending on the age of the wine; the nose bursts with notes of ripe white fleshy fruit, caramel and honey; it displays good minerality on the palate, typical of well-structured wines. Provincia di Mantova PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red to garnet red; the nose reveals intense and typical aromas of dried fruit; it is typical and balanced on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Provincia di Mantova PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding varieties. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Provincia di Mantova PGI wines with the specification of a black grape variety can also be produced as a Novello wine. Provincia di Mantova PGI wines with the specification of a grape variety can also be produced as a semi-sparkling or Passito wine. Provincia di Mantova PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
