The production area of Pignoletto PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Bologna, Modena and Ravenna in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Description of product typologies
Pignoletto PDO Bianco is straw-yellow, at times with greenish reflections: it has a light, fruity fragrance; it is characteristic on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet, at times slightly bitter. Pignoletto PDO Frizzante is straw-yellow and has a fine, evanescent perlage; the nose is slightly aromatic; it is characteristic and harmonious on the palate, ranging from dry to medium-sweet, and slightly bitter. Pignoletto PDO Spumante is straw-yellow and has fine, persistent foam; it has a characteristic, slightly aromatic fragrance; it is sapid, characteristic and harmonious on the palate, and can vary in the wines ranging from brut nature to dry. Pignoletto PDO Passito is golden yellow, tending towards amber with ageing; the nose is light, characteristic and delicate; it is smooth on the palate and can vary from semi-sweet to sweet. Pignoletto PDO Vendemmia Tardiva is golden yellow, tending towards amber with ageing; the nose reveals an intense and characteristic fragrance; it is smooth and delicate on the palate and can vary from semi-sweet to sweet.
Geographical and sub-area specifications
The Pignoletto PDO can be accompanied by three geographical sub-areas: Pignoletto PDO Colli d’Imola, reserved for White, Semi-Sparkling and Spumante wines produced in a few municipalities in the Province of Bologna with grapes typical of the terroir of origin; Pignoletto PDO Modena, reserved for White, Semi-Sparkling and Spumante wines produced in a few municipalities in the Province of Modena with grapes typical of the terroir of origin; Pignoletto PDO Reno, reserved for White, Semi-Sparkling and Spumante wines produced in a few municipalities in the provinces of Bologna and Modena with grapes typical of the terroir of origin.
