Production Area
The production area of Penisola Sorrentina PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Gragnano, Pimonte, Lettere, Casola di Napoli, Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento, Meta Sant’Angelo, Massa Lubrense, Vico Equense, Agerola and parts of Sant’Antonio Abate and Castellamare di Stabia, in the Province of Naples, in the Campania region.
Description of product typologies
Penisola Sorrentina PDO Bianco is bright straw-yellow; the nose bursts with aromas of citrus fruit, green apple and almond; it is warm on the palate, with an intense fresh, sapid note. Penisola Sorrentina PDO Rosso is pale ruby red; the nose displays an evident fruity fragrance of sour cherry, traces of leather and a sweet liquorice consistency; the fresh structure of the palate offers a solid body with good tannins and a long fruity finish. It can also be produced as a semi-sparkling wine. Grapes destined for the production of Penisola Sorrentina PDO Rosso Frizzante wines accompanied by at least one of the geographical specifications, can be produced with the traditional method of natural secondary fermentation; no form of artificial gasification is permitted.
Geographical and sub-area specifications
The Penisola Sorrentina PDO can be accompanied by three geographical sub-designations: Penisola Sorrentina PDO Gragnano, reserved for semi-sparkling Red wines produced throughout the entire territory of the municipalities of Gragnano and Pimonte and parts of the municipality of Castellamare di Stabia; Penisola Sorrentina PDO Lettere, reserved for semi-sparkling Red wines produced throughout the entire territory of the municipalities of Lettere and Casola di Napoli and parts of the municipality of Sant’Antonio Abate; Penisola Sorrentina PDO Sorrento, reserved for White and Red wines produced throughout the entire territory of the municipalities of Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento, Meta, Sant’Angelo, Massa Lubrense and Vico Equense. Penisola Sorrentina PDO Gragnano, Penisola Sorrentina PDO Lettere and Penisola Sorrentina PDO Sorrento wines are produced with the same blends as Penisola Sorrentina PDO Bianco and Penisola Sorrentina PDO Rosso wines (see Blends).
