Description of product typologies
Moscato di Scanzo PDO or Scanzo PDO is ruby red, varying in intensity and at times tending towards cherry-red with garnet red reflections; the nose is intense and rich with aromas, predominantly mixed berries, dried red roses and marasca cherry; with ageing, the fruity structure of the palate tends to assume a flavour of fruit compote and honey, with an aftertaste reminiscent of incense, cinnamon, liquorice, almond or flint. After harvesting, the grapes destined for the production of Moscato di Scanzo PDO or Scanzo PDO wines must be dried for at least 21 days on trellises or in thermo-conditioned environments with a maximum temperature of 15 °C; this is followed by an ageing period of at least two years. The wine can be released for consumption from November 1st of the second year following that in which the grapes were produced. The drying and vinification processes, including mandatory ageing and bottling, must be carried out within the municipality of Scanzorosciate.
