The production area of Montello Rosso PDO or Montello PDO is within the entire territory of 3 municipalities and in part of the territory of 16 municipalities in the Province of Treviso, in the Veneto region.
Blends
Red (including Superiore): 40-70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30-60% Merlot and/or Cabernet Franc and/or Carmenère, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%.
Description of product typologies
Montello Rosso PDO or Montello PDO Rosso is ruby-red in colour, tending towards garnet with aging; the nose is complex, moving between fruity fragrances of raspberry and cocoa, spiciness and the sweetness of vanilla, and the complexity of coffee and blackcurrant; it is full and ample on the palate with dense sweet tannins, robust texture and long aromatic persistence. It can display Superiore on the label.Montello Rosso PDO or Montello PDO wine must have been aged for at least 18 months, with a minimum of 9 months in oak barrels and 6 months in bottles; Montello Rosso PDO or Montello PDO Superiore wines must undergo a minimum aging period of 24 months, of which at least 9 months must be in oak barrels and 6 months in bottles. The aging period commences November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced.
