Description
The Loazzolo PDO is reserved exclusively for Sweet White wine.
Production Area
The production area of Loazzolo PDO is within the entire territory of the municipality of Loazzolo in the Province of Asti, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Loazzolo PDO is bright golden yellow; the nose is intense and complex with hints of moss, brushwood, vanilla and candied fruit; it is sweet, warm and pleasantly embracing on the palate, with a typical aromatic aftertaste. For the production of Loazzolo PDO wine, the grape harvest must begin on September 20th. The grapes are carefully selected before being gradually dried on the vines or in suitable environments, with the possible development of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot). Loazzolo PDO wine cannot be released for consumption before it has been aged and matured for at least 2 years, commencing January 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced. During this period the wine must spend at least 6 months in wooden barrels with a maximum capacity of 250 litres. During the maturing period before bottling, the wine can ferment slowly during the colder months.
Additional specifications
If the grapes are harvested late and in stages, the Loazzolo PDO designation may use the traditional specification Vendemmia Tardiva.
