The Lessini Durello PDO or Durello Lessini PDO is reserved exclusively for Spumante wine.
The production area of Lessini Durello PDO or Durello Lessini PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Verona and Vicenza, in the Veneto region.
White Spumante (incl. Riserva): min. 85% Durella, with the possible addition of the Garganega, Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Pinot Nero grape varieties, max. 15% individually or combined.
Description of product typologies
Lessini Durello PDO or Durello Lessini PDO Spumante is bright yellow in colour with a fine and persistent perlage; the notes on the nose full and complex with medlar and acacia, with traces of vanilla and a background of bread; the palate is medium-bodied, with a good balance between acidity, minerality and structure, notes of toasted bread, hints of yeast and a persistent finish. It can display Riserva on the label. Traditionally it is possible to find the presence of a film in Lessini Durello PDO or Durello Lessini PDO Spumante wines, in which case it is mandatory to display “rifermentazione in bottiglia” (secondary fermentation in bottles) on the label. Lessini Durello PDO or Durello Lessini PDO Spumante wines must be obtained exclusively through natural fermentation in autoclaves and can be put on the market as Extra brut, Brut, Extra-dry, Dry and Demi-sec; Lessini Durello PDO or Durello Lessini PDO Spumante Riserva wine must be obtained exclusively through secondary fermentation in bottles according to the classic method, remaining on the lees for at least 36 months. This period commences on the tirage date and nevertheless not before January 1st of the year following that of the grape harvest.
The Lessini Durello PDO or Durello Lessini PDO designation can be followed by Vigna (Vineyard) with the relative toponym.
