Production Area
The production area of Lambrusco Mantovano PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in two separated areas; part of Viadanese-Sabbionetano, including the territory between the River Oglio and the River Po; the area of Oltrepò Mantovano - both of which are in the Province of Mantua, in the Lombardy region.

Red (Semi-Sparkling), Rosé (Semi-Sparkling): min. 85%, individually or combined, Lambrusco Viadanese, Lambrusco Grappello Ruberti, Lambrusco Maestri (locally known as Grappello Maestri), Lambrusco Marani and Lambrusco Salamino, max. 15%, individually or combined, Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Grasparossa (locally known as Grappello Grasparossa), Ancellotta and Fortana.

Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Rosso Frizzante has a characteristic ruby-red colour, varying in intensity and with sparkling foam; the nose is pleasantly fruity, at times offering sensations of pansies and blackcurrant; it is sapid and dry or sapid and semi-sweet on the palate, with a strong fruity imprint. Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Rosato Frizzante is pink in colour, varying in intensity and with lively and sparkling foam; the nose is pleasing, offering fruity notes; the palate is varying degrees of dry.Grapes destined for the vinification of Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Rosso Frizzante and Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Rosato Frizzante wines must ensure that the wine has a minimum natural alcohol level of 10%. Secondary fermentation is permitted year-round.

The Lambrusco Mantovano PDO can be accompanied by two sub-geographical designations: Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Viadanese-Sabbionetano, produced in the municipalities of Commessaggio, Dòsolo, Gazzuolo, Sabbioneta and Viadana; Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Oltrepò, produced in the municipalities of Borgofranco sul Po, Carbonara sul Po, Gonzaga, Magnacavallo, Moglia, Mottegiana, Pegognaga, Pieve di Coriano, Poggio Rusco, Quingentole, Quistello, Revere, San Benedetto Po, San Giacomo delle Segnate, San Giovanni del Dosso, Schivenoglia, Sermide, Suzzara and Villa Poma, all located in the Province of Mantua, in the Lombardy region. Both of the sub-designations can be produced as Lambrusco Rosso Frizzante and Lambrusco Rosato Frizzante wine. Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Viadanese-Sabbionetano Frizzante Rosso and Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Oltrepò Mantovano Frizzante Rosso wines are ruby-red to garnet in colour, with sparkling and fizzy foam; the nose offers vinous and fruity notes with hints of pansy or blackcurrant; it is sapid and acidulous on the palate and can range from dry to semi-sweet. Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Viadanese-Sabbionetano Frizzante Rosé and Lambrusco Mantovano PDO Oltrepò Mantovano Frizzante Rosé wines are pink in colour, varying in intensity and with fizzy and sparkling foam; the nose is pleasing and fruity; it is slightly acidulous on the palate and can range from dry to semi-sweet. Grapes destined for the vinification of Lambrusco Mantovano PDO wines with the specification of a sub-area must ensure that the wine has a minimum natural alcohol level of 10,5%.
