The production area of Lacrima di Morro PDO or Lacrima di Morro d’Alba PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Morro d’Alba, Monte S. Vito, S. Marcello, Belvedere Ostrense, Ostra and Senigallia in the Province of Ancona, in The Marches region.
Blends
Red (including Superiore), Passito: min. 85% Lacrima, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%.
Description of product typologies
Lacrima di Morro PDO or Lacrima di Morro d’Alba PDO is intense ruby-red in colour with purple hues; the nose emanates floral fragrances of red roses and wisteria, raspberry and delicately spicy hints of pepper on a woody background - with aging the nose becomes fruity-floral with strawberry, cherry, blackberry, blueberry, pansy and violet; it is fresh and thin on the palate, with good tannins and a moderate structure. It can display Superiore on the label. Lacrima di Morro PDO or Lacrima di Morro d’Alba PDO Rosso wines can be made available for consumption from December 15th of the year in which the grapes were produced; for Lacrima di Morro PDO or Lacrima di Morro d’Alba PDO Rosso Superiore wines the date is September 1st of the year following that of the grape harvest.Lacrima di Morro PDO or Lacrima di Morro d’Alba PDO Passito is red to garnet in colour, varying in intensity; the nose displays fragrances of ripe fruit jams; it is smooth and mellow on the palate. The grapes used for the production of Lacrima di Morro PDO or Lacrima di Morro d’Alba PDO Passito wine must have undergone a drying period that may last up until March 30th of the year following that of the grape harvest; the vinification processes must have been completed by November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Passito wine can be made available for consumption from December 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
