Red (Semi-Sparkling, Superiore, Classico Superiore, Riserva, Classico Riserva): 55-70% Barbera, 30-45% Croatina (locally known as Bonarda).
Description of product typologies
Gutturnio PDO is bright ruby-red in colour, becoming more intense with aging; the nose suggests blackberry and pansy and is fresh and fragrant; it is full, well-structured, fruity and moderately tannic on the palate. It must display one of the following typologies on the label: Frizzante, Superiore or Classico Superiore, Riserva or Classico Riserva.Grapes destined for the vinification of Gutturnio PDO Rosso wines must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 12%; for Gutturnio PDO Superiore and Classico Superiore 12,5% and for Gutturnio PDO Classico Riserva 13%. Gutturnio PDO Superiore wine can be made available for consumption after April 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced. Riserva wines must undergo a minimum aging and maturing process of 24 months, of which at least 6 months must be in wooden recipients, commencing September 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced.
