The production area of Grignolino d’Asti PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Asti, in the Piedmont region.
Red: min. 90% Grignolino, max. 10% Freisa.
Description of product typologies
Grignolino d’Asti PDO is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity and acquiring orange hues with aging; the nose is delicate, with notes of small red fruit and brushwood which are often accompanied by characteristic hints of white pepper; the palate is austere, matured and dry due to the typical presence of tannins, with a pleasant almondy finish. Grapes destined for the vinification of Grignolino d’Asti PDO wines must ensure a minimum natural alcohol level of 10,5%. The vinification processes of Grignolino d’Asti PDO wines must be carried out within the territory of the municipalities in the production area; however, taking circumstances of traditional production into consideration, these operations may also be carried out within the entire territory of the Province of Asti.It is mandatory for Grignolino d’Asti PDO wines to display the year in which the grapes were produced.
