The production area of Girò di Cagliari PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Sud Sardegna, Cagliari and Oristano, in the Sardinia region.
Description of product typologies
Girò di Cagliari PDO Rosso is various shades of ruby red; the nose is intense and extremely light, offering fragrances of small red berries; the palate usually displays a sweetish note, with good balance and a fairly long finish. Girò di Cagliari PDO Liquoroso is red, varying in intensity and tending towards orange red with ageing; the nose is intense and light, with jammy and syrupy red fruit blending pleasantly with dry pastries; it is varying degrees of sweet on the palate, with a characteristic fruitiness and defined minerality that is even more evident in the aftertaste and long, persistent finish. Alcohol produced through winemaking can be added to the must or base wine to produce Girò di Cagliari PDO Liquoroso wine. It can display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone a minimum ageing period of 2 years, of which at least 1 year must be in oak or chestnut barrels; the ageing period commences on the day the wine was alcoholised. Girò di Cagliari Protected Designation of Origin wines cannot be released for consumption before July 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
