The Gioia del Colle PDO is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red and Rosé; Gioia del Colle Aleatico Dolce, Gioia del Colle Aleatico Liquoroso Dolce, Gioia del Colle Primitivo, only with specification of grape variety.

Description of product typologies
Gioia del Colle PDO Bianco is straw-yellow; the nose is fruity and offers a floral fragrance of jasmine with a note of oregano; it is smooth and compact on the palate, supported by a vibrant tart and sapid vein. Gioia del Colle PDO Rosso is intense ruby red tending towards garnet red; the nose displays fragrances of plum, blueberry and aromatic herbs which blend with sweet spicy notes; it is smooth and compact on the palate, with nicely melted tannins. Gioia del Colle PDO Rosato is delicate ruby red; the nose is slightly vinous, with characteristic fruity notes if the wine is young; it is dry, fresh, harmonious and pleasant on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Gioia del Colle PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From red grape varieties (incl. Riserva): min. 85% Aleatico (Semi-Sweet, Sweet, Sweet Liqueur), max. 15% Negroamaro and/or Malvasia Nera and/or Primitivo; 100% Primitivo. Gioia del Colle PDO Aleatico Dolce is garnet red, varying in intensity, with purplish reflections that tend towards orange with ageing; the nose offers a characteristic delicate aroma that blends with a fragrance given to ageing; it is full, slightly sweet and velvety on the palate. Gioia del Colle PDO Dolce Liquoroso, obtained through the alcoholisation of base wines or musts, has a warmer and sweeter flavour than the previous wine, and is harmonious and pleasant. Gioia del Colle PDO Aleatico cannot be released for consumption before March 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced. It can display Riserva on the label if released for consumption at least two years later, one of which must be in wooden barrels. Gioia del Colle PDO Primitivo is red, tending towards purple and orange with ageing: the nose offers a light characteristic aroma; it is pleasant, full and harmonious on the palate, tending towards velvety with ageing and at times semi-sweet. Gioia del Colle PDO Primitivo can display Riserva on the label if it has been aged for at least two years, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced.
