The production area of Ghemme PDO is within part of the administrative territory of the municipalities of Ghemme and Romagnano Sesia in the Province of Novara, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Ghemme PDO is red tending towards garnet in colour; the nose releases balsamic and spicy fragrances, with hints of blackberry and plum jam and brushwood; a pleasing freshness on the palate is enriched with fruity and balsamic notes. It can display Riserva on the label.Ghemme PDO wine must be aged for a mandatory period of 34 months (46 for Riserva wines), of which at least 18 months must be in wood (24 for Riserva wines), commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested, as well as a maturing period of at least 6 months in bottles. . Ghemme PDO wine may be released for consumption from September 1st of the third year following that in which the grapes were produced and from September 1st of the fourth year following that in which the grapes were harvested for Ghemme PDO Riserva.
