The Falerio PDO is reserved exclusively for White wine. The Designation also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.
The production area of Falerio PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo, in The Marches region.
White: 20-50% Trebbiano Toscano, 10-30% Passerina, 10-30% Pecorino, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 20%.
Description of product typologies
Falerio PDO is straw-yellow in colour with greenish highlights; it is delicately fruity on the nose with hints of apple, banana and pineapple; the palate is dry and pleasantly acidulous, which goes well with its discrete structure, and has good persistence, maintaining its characteristic aroma even two to three years after the grape harvest.Vinification must take place within the administrative territories of the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo.Grapes destined for the vinification of Falerio PDO wine in its various typologies must ensure a minimum natural alcohol content of 11%.
Grape variety specifications
The Falerio PDO may display the specifications of the following grape varieties. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Pecorino, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%.The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
