Production Area
The production area of Falerio PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo, in The Marches region.
Description of product typologies
Falerio PDO is straw-yellow with greenish reflections; it is delicately fruity on the nose with hints of apple, banana and pineapple; it is dry and pleasantly acidulous on the palate, complimenting its good structure, with good aromatic persistence and maintaining its characteristic aroma as long as two to three years after the grape harvest. Vinification must take place within today’s administrative territory of the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Fermo.Grapes destined for the vinification of all Falerio Protected Designation of Origin wines must ensure a minimum natural alcohol content of 11% vol.
Grape variety specifications
The Falerio PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Pecorino, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
