Production Area
The production area of Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Provinces of Asti and Alessandria, in the Piedmont region.
Blends
White (including Semi-Sparkling), Spumante: min. 85% Cortese, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%.
Description of product typologies
Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato PDO Bianco is pale straw yellow in colour, at times with greenish highlights; the nose is gentle and persistent with notes of flowers and fresh apricot and apple; it is dry and slightly tart on the palate, with a slightly bitter undertone that is balanced with good sapidity. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato PDO Spumante is pale straw-yellow in colour, at times tending towards green, with a fine and persistent perlage; the characteristic fruity aromas of the still wine return on the nose, and it is delicate, extremely gentle, yet persistent; in the Brut nature and Brut typologies, the palate is harmonious and balanced, with good sapidity and a delicate bitter notes. The vinification and gasification of Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato PDO wines must take place within the production area; however, taking traditional and commercial situations into consideration, these operations may also be carried out within the territory of the Provinces of Alessandria, Asti, Cuneo and Turin.
