Production Area
The production area of Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Laterza, Mottola, Crispiano and Martina Franca, and parts of Castellaneta, Ginosa, Palagianello, Massafra, Statte and Grottaglie, in the Province of Taranto, in the Apulia region.
Description of product typologies
Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO Bianco is pale straw-yellow, varying in intensity, at times with amber reflections; the nose is delicate and pleasant, with floral and fruity notes; it is dry and fresh on the palate. Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO Rosso is bright ruby red; the nose opens with fruity and spicy sensations embraced by a delicate balsamicity; it is austere on the palate, with polished tannins and fruity undertones. It can display Superiore on the label. Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO Rosso Superiore may display Riserva Superiore on the label if the wine has undergone an ageing period of at least 30 months, at least 12 months of which must be in wooden barrels, commencing January 1st of the year following that of the harvest. Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; it is fruity and pleasant on the nose; it is dry, full-bodied, harmonious and mildly tannic on the palate. Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO Spumante is straw-yellow with a fine perlage; the nose displays floral and fruity fragrances and yeasty notes; it is fresh and pungent on the palate. Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO Novello is a decisive ruby red colour, tending towards purple; the nose is intense and pleasant, with floral and fruity notes; it is harmonious and rounded on the palate, with the fruity notes of the nose returning in the mouth. The organoleptic properties of Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO Liquoroso wines with specification of grape variety are typical of the grapes and terroir of origin.

The Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Verdeca, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. From red grape varieties (incl. Superiore, Dry Liqueur, Natural Sweet Liqueur Wine): min. 85% Primitivo, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin. Colline Joniche Tarantine PDO Primitivo Superiore may display Riserva Superiore on the label if the wine has undergone an ageing period of at least 30 months, at least 12 months of which must be in wooden barrels, commencing January 1st of the year following that of the harvest.
