Production Area
The production area of Colline di Levanto PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Levanto, Bonassola, Framura and Deiva Marina in the Province of La Spezia, in the Liguria region.
Description of product typologies
Colline di Levanto PDO Bianco is intense straw-yellow in colour; the nose displays a floral fragrance of acacia and aromatic herbs, with fruity notes of ripe white fleshy fruit; on the palate it is dry and harmonious with fruity returns, supported by significant sapidity. Colline di Levanto PDO Rosso is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity, tending towards garnet with ageing; the nose is delicate, vinous, well-structured and with expressive tannins; it is dry, fine and harmonious on the palate. Colline di Levanto PDO Novello is ruby-red colour, varying in intensity; the nose is vinous and embracing, with fruity notes; it is sapid and harmonious on the palate. The vines are trained on Ligurian “pergoletta” (trellises) and in the counter-espalier system, with the use of head pruning.
Grape variety specifications
The Colline di Levanto PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From white grape varieties: min. 85% Vermentino, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
