Description of product typologies
Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO is golden-yellow tending towards amber; the broad range of fragrances on the nose start with acacia honey and lead to candied citron, papaya and sugared almond; it is smooth yet robust on the palate balanced by good freshness. Vinification and bottling must take place within the production area; the grapes may be dried on the vines and/or trellises and/or in open crates or environments with temperature and/or humidity and/or forced ventilation control systems.
Geographical and sub-area specifications
The Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO can be accompanied by the Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO Cialla sub-geographical designation. Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO Cialla is golden yellow; varying in intensity; it is delicately fragranced and characteristic on the nose, at times with a note of Passito wine; it is semi-sweet or sweet on the palate, warm, harmonious and delicate, with possible wood hints. It may display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone an ageing period of at least 4 years, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. The wine cannot be released for consumption before September 1st of the second year following that of the harvest. Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit PDO Cialla is obtained exclusively from grapes originating from vineyards made up exclusively of the Picolit grape variety.
