The production area of Colli di Salerno PGI is within the entire territory of the Province of Salerno, in the Campania region.
Blends
White, red and rosé wines with the Colli di Salerno PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, max. 40%, in a business environment, from one or more red/white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.
Description of product typologies
Colli di Salerno PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow in colour; it offers varying degrees of floral and fruity fragrances on the nose, based on the grape varieties used; on the palate it is dry and fresh, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be Semi-Sparkling and Amabile (Semi-sweet) wine. Colli di Salerno PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit, hints of spices and aromatic herbs and aromatic elegance deriving from the grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, sometimes with evident tannins, with good body. It can also be Semi-Sparkling, Novello, Amabile (Semi-sweet) wine. Colli di Salerno PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. It can also be Semi-Sparkling and Amabile (Semi-sweet) wine. Colli di Salerno PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow to amber in colour; the nose is rich with intense fruity and floral notes; on the palate it is sweet or supple. Colli di Salerno PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, has a colour that is typical of the grape varieties of origin; its fragrance is intense, floral and fruity; on the palate it is sweet or supple.
Grape variety specifications
The Colli di Salerno PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Province of Salerno, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Colli di Salerno PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
