Production Area
The production area of Cirò PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Cirò and Cirò Marina, and parts of Melissa and Crucoli in the Province of Crotone, in the Calabria region.
Description of product typologies
Cirò PDO Bianco is straw-yellow, varying in intensity, at times with greenish reflections; floral fragrances of magnolia and orange blossom emerge on the nose, with fruity aromas of candied citrus and vanilla; it is sapid and fresh on the palate, with a long almondy persistence. Cirò PDO Rosso is ruby red, varying in intensity, with purple reflections; the nose displays traces of liqueur fruit and balsamic and spicy hints; a tannic streak on the palate is enhanced by a tart note and supported by a strong fruity and irony element. It can display Classico, Classico Superiore, Classico Superiore Riserva, Superiore, Superiore Riserva on the label. Cirò PDO Rosato is pink, varying in intensity; delicate fruity and sweet spicy fragrances stand out on the nose; it is dry, mouth-filling, fresh, harmonious and pleasant on the palate. Cirò PDO Rosso wine cannot be released for consumption before June 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced. Cirò PDO Superiore and Classico Superiore wines can only display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone an ageing period of at least 2 years. This period commences January 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
