The production area of Cesanese del Piglio PDO or Piglio PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Piglio and Serrone and part of the administrative territory of Acuto, Anagni and Paliano, in the Province of Frosinone, in the Lazio region.
Blends
Red (including Superiore, Riserva): min. 90% Cesanese di Affile and/or Cesanese Comune, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 10%.
Description of product typologies
Cesanese del Piglio PDO or Piglio PDO Rosso is ruby-red in colour with purple highlights; the olfactory span is ample on the nose, expressing hues of Mediterranean scrub, blackberry, liquorice and brushwood; it is warm and velvety on the palate, with fragrant hints of mint, eucalyptus and chlorophyll. It can display Riserva on the label. Cesanese del Piglio PDO or Piglio PDO Rosso Superiore is ruby-red in colour, tending towards garnet with aging; the nose offers an intense fragrance with floral and fruity notes; it is dry and harmonious on the palate, with pleasant bitter notes. In order to qualify as Riserva, Cesanese del Piglio or Piglio PDO Superiore wines must have been aged for at least 20 months, with at least 6 months maturing in bottles. Cesanese del Piglio PDO or Piglio PDO cannot be made available for consumption before February 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced; Riserva wines can be put on the market from July 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were harvested.
