Production Area
The production area of Calosso PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Calosso, Castagnole delle Lanze and Costigliole D’Asti in the Province of Asti, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Calosso PDO Rosso is ruby-red; it is fruity on the nose with balsamic notes; on the palate it is dry, warm and sapid, with a spicy note that brings out the typical aroma of green pepper. Riserva and Vigna (Vineyard) can be displayed on the label when the wine has undergone an ageing period of at least 30 months, commencing December 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Calosso PDO Passarà (Passito) is ruby-red, presenting orange reflections with ageing; it is intense on the nose with characteristic aromas of dried grapes; it is harmonious on the palate, with hints of red berry fruit accompanied by smoothness and roundness, bringing out the wine’s full-bodied flavour. The grapes destined to be dried to produce Calosso PDO Passarà wine cannot be vinified before December 15th; the grapes must be dried in suitable environments with air conditioning systems. Calosso PDO wine must have undergone a minimum ageing period of 20 months, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were harvested.
