Description of product typologies
Brunello di Montalcino PDO is ruby-red in colour, tending towards garnet; the impact on the nose is intense, exuberant and of appreciable depth, with fragrances of red fruit and sensations of spices and brushwood; the palate is dynamic thanks to lively tannins, with evident fruitiness and a blend of alcohol and acidity offering robust, harmonious and persistent sensations. It can display Riserva on the label. Brunello di Montalcino PDO must have been aged for at least twenty four months in oak barrels, and cannot be made available for consumption before January 1st of the year following the termination of 5 years aging, a period that is calculated from the vintage year. Brunello di Montalcino PDO Riserva can be made available for consumption after January 1st of the year following the termination of 6 years aging, a period that is calculated from the vintage year. Before being made available for consumption, Brunello di Montalcino PDO wines must have undergone a maturing period in bottles of at least 4 months; at least 6 months for Brunello di Montalcino PDO Riserva. Vinification, preservation, aging in wood, bottling and maturation in bottles must be carried out within the production area.
