The Avola PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello.
The production area of Avola PGI is within the territory of the municipalities of Avola and Siracusa in the Province of Siracusa, in the Sicily region.
White, red and rosé wines with the Avola PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more grape varieties of the corresponding colour and suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.
Description of product typologies
Avola PGI Bianco is straw-yellow in colour, varying in intensity; it is floral, fruity and characteristic on the nose; on the palate it is dry, fresh and smooth, with a slightly fruity flavour and a perfect balance between body and acidity. Avola PGI Rosso is ruby-red, varying in intensity depending on the grape variety; it is full on the nose, with fragrances of red fruit; on the palate it is dry and sapid, with good body and firm tannic structure. The Novello has the same organoleptic characteristics.Avola PGI Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity depending on the type of vinification and grape variety; it has a delicately fruity fragrance, with pleasing sensations of balsamic; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with fruity notes.
