The production area of Alto Mincio PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Mantua, in the Lombardy region.
Description of product typologies
Alto Mincio PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow; it is delicately fruity and harmonious on the nose; the fragrances return in the flavour and it is fresh, typical and full-bodied on the palate. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Alto Mincio PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red, varying in intensity; it is delicate on the nose with rich scents of ripe red fruit; it is dry and typical on the palate. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Alto Mincio PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink; it is pleasant and delicate on the nose; on the palate it is dry and harmonious. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Alto Mincio PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow to amber; the intense fragrance is rich with fruity notes; it is pleasantly sapid on the palate. Alto Mincio PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red to garnet red; it is intense and characteristic on the nose; the flavour is harmonious and extremely sapid. Alto Mincio PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red; it offers pleasant fruity notes on the nose; it has a dry, fresh flavour.
Grape variety specifications
The Alto Mincio PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. A maximum of 15% of grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned wines. Alto Mincio PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
