Production Area
The production area of Alezio PDO is within the territory of the municipalities of Alezio and Sannicola and parts of the municipalities of Gallipoli and Tuglie in the Province of Lecce, in the Apulia region.
Blends
Red, (including Riserva) Rosé: min. 80% Negroamaro, max. 20% Malvasia Nera di Lecce and/or Sangiovese, and/or Montepulciano.
Description of product typologies
Alezio PDO Rosso is ruby-red in colour, with orange reflections after aging; the nose displays a fruity and floral fragrance if the wine is young, developing complex, spicy and balsamic notes with aging; it is dry and warm on the palate, with a pleasing bitter, tannic and sapid aftertaste.The word Riserva can be displayed on the label if the wine has undergone a minimum aging period of 2 years and is made available for consumption with a minimum alcohol level of at least 12.5%. The aging period commences November 1st of the year in which the grapes are produced.Alezio PDO Rosé is coral-pink in colour; on the nose it exhibits a persistent fragrance of red fruit and wild strawberries, with a delicate hint of balsamic; it is dry, harmonious and velvety on the palate, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. In order to transform the grapes destined for the production of Alezio PDO Rosé, a traditional method of white vinification must be used after limited maceration. The residue of grapes destined for the production of the Rosé cannot be used for the vinification of Alezio PDO Rosso.
