The production area of Aglianico del Vulture Superiore PDO is within the entire territory of the municipalities of Rionero in Vulture, Barile, Rapolla, Ripacandida, Ginestra, Maschito, Forenza, Acerenza, Melfi, Atella, Venosa, Lavello, Palazzo San Gervasio, Banzi, and Genzano di Lucania, excluding the districts of Sant’Ilario, Riparossa and Macchia in the Municipality of Atella, in the Province of Potenza, in the Basilicata region.
Description of product typologies
Aglianico del Vulture Superiore PDO is intense ruby-red with garnet red reflections; the wide array of intense aromas on the nose evolve from brushwood to bark, finishing with the intense fruitiness of mulberry and blackberry and citrusy notes of candied orange and spices; it has a full-bodied and mellow taste, with a well- balanced and elegant structure and a lively fruity, balsamic and mineral aftertaste, which has a long aromatic persistence that is extremely pleasurable on the palate. Aglianico del Vulture Superiore PDO cannot be released for consumption before November 1st of the third year following that in which the grapes were produced, after a mandatory ageing period of at least 12 months in wooden recipients and at least 12 months in the bottle. The label can only display the specification Riserva if it is released for consumption from November 1st of the fifth year following that in which the grapes were produced, after an ageing period of at least 24 months in wooden recipients and 12 months in the bottle.
