The production area of Rosso di Montepulciano PDO is within parts of the territory of the Municipality of Montepulciano in the Province of Siena, in the Tuscany region.
Blends
Red: min. 70% Sangiovese (locally known as Prugnolo Gentile), with the possible addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 30%, on the condition that white grape varieties do not exceed 5%; aromatic grape varieties may not be used, with the exception of Malvasia Bianca Lunga.
Description of product typologies
Rosso di Montepulciano PDO is ruby-red to crimson in colour; the nose displays evident notes of pansy, blackberry and spices; it is rounded and smooth on the palate, with velvety tannins and continuing fruity sensations. Rosso di Montepulciano PDO wines cannot be made available for consumption before March 1st of year following that in which the grapes were produced. The vinification processes must be carried out within the administrative territory of Montepulciano. It is mandatory for the year in which the grapes were produced to be displayed on the label.
