Description of product typologies
Montefalco Sagrantino PDO Rosso Secco (Dry) has an intense ruby-red colour, at times with purple highlights and tending towards garnet with aging; the nose opens with intense fragrances of small black fruit on a background of tobacco, medicinal herbs, rhubarb and graphite; the sensations on the nose are confirmed on the palate, which is fresh, flexible and with well-expressed tannins on a long and persistent fruity finish.Montefalco Sagrantino PDO Rosso Passito has a deep ruby-red colour, at times with purple highlights and tending towards garnet with aging; the nose displays strong, sweet and fruity notes of liqueur cherry and black fruit syrup; the freshness and tannins on the palate are the protagonists of this sweet and sinewy wine.Montefalco Sagrantino PDO Rosso Secco and Passito wine must undergo a mandatory aging period of at least 33 months, commencing December 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced, of which - for Dry wines - at least 12 months must be in oak barrels. Furthermore, Montefalco Sagrantino PDO Secco and Passito wine cannot be made available for consumption before it ihasundergone a further maturing period in bottles of at least 4 months; Montefalco Sagrantino PDO Passito must be produced with grapes that have been dried naturally and that have been subjected to controlled humidity. In this case, the environments can be subjected to a dehumidifying treatment and possible lowered room temperature. The aid of heating however is not permitted.
