The production area of Del Vastese or Histonium PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Chieti, in the Abruzzo region.
Blends
White, red and rosé wines with the Del Vastese or Histonium PGI must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyards, in a business environment, with one or more red/white grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area.
Description of product typologies
Del Vastese or Histonium PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pale to intense straw-yellow in colour; the nose offers different sensations of flowers and fruit, depending on the grape varieties used; it is dry and fresh on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour and good persistence. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Del Vastese or Histonium PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit, traces of spices and aromatic herbs and with the elegance of the various grape varieties used; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with good body and, at times, evident tannins. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Del Vastese or Histonium PGI Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate, with the characteristics of the grape varieties of origin. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. Del Vastese or Histonium PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow in colour, tending towards amber with aging; the nose presents intense aromas of fruit; on the palate it is dry and sapid. Del Vastese or Histonium PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is red to garnet in colour, varying in depth; the nose is intense, with characteristic fragrances of the grape variety used; it is harmonious, sweet and velvety on the palate.Del Vastese or Histonium PGI Novello Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is a ruby-red colour with purplish highlights; it offers a fruity fragrance on the nose; the palate is harmonious, fresh and velvety.Del Vastese or Histonium PGI Novello Rosé, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink in colour, varying in intensity; it displays intense fruity aromas on the nose; the palate is velvety and full of freshness.
Grape variety specifications
The Del Vastese or Histonium PGI, with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Abruzzo region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Non-aromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned wines. The Del Vastese or Histonium PGI with specification of two grape varieties is reserved for wines obtained from corresponding grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from the indicated grapes, and that the quantity of grapes produced by each of the two is higher than 15% of the total. The grape varieties must be indicated on the label in descending order, in respect to the actual contribution of the grape.Del Vastese or Histonium PGI wines with specification of grape variety, must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
