The Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI (Weinberg Dolomiten in German) is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé, White Spumante, Spumante Rosé, Aromatic Quality Spumante, "Moscato giallo" Aromatic Quality Spumante (grape variety specification), White Passito, Red Passito, Rosé Passito and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Production Area

The production area of Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI is within the entire territory of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the Autonomous Province of Trento, and the Province of Belluno in the Veneto region.

Blends

White, red and rosé wines with the Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI wines must be obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, from one or more grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Bolzano, Trento and Belluno; with the exclusion of the Moscato Giallo grape variety for white wines and Muscat Rosa for red and rosé wines. Vigneti delle Dolomiti or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI spumante and quality spumante wines must be made with grapes originating from the Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero or Müller Thurgau grape varieties, individually or combined.

Description of product typologies

Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI Bianco wine is straw-yellow to golden-yellow in colour, at times with greenish or coppery highlights; the nose offers a wide range of floral and fruity fragrances, at times aromatic; it is fresh, smooth and sapid on the palate, often with a fruity aftertaste in the dry to sweet typologies, and has a pleasantly persistent finish. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine.Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI Rosso wine is ruby-red in colour, varying in intensity and at times with orangey highlights, depending on the age of the wine; the nose reveals intense fruity sensations of cranberry, blackcurrant, ripe fruit and forest fruit, with balsamic notes and vegetal variations; it is warm and harmonious on the palate, with a sharp tannic vein that leads to pleasant and persistent finish, at times slightly bitter in the dry to sweet typologies. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling.Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI Rosé wine ranges from smooth rose-petal-pink to intense coral in colour; the nose is evidently floral with sensations of small red-berried fruit; it is fresh, harmonious and fruity on the palate, with a good acid backbone that determines the freshness of the dry to sweet typologies. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine.Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI Spumante ranges from straw to golden yellow in colour, with greenish highlights and a lively and effervescent perlage; the nose is elegant and pleasant; it is pleasing on the palate in the dry to sweet typologies. Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI Spumante Rosè has a soft pink colour and a lively and effervescent perlage; the nose is elegant and pleasant; it is pleasing on the palate in the dry to sweet typologies. Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI Aromatic Quality Spumante ranges from straw to golden yellow in colour, with greenish highlights and a lively and effervescent perlage; the nose is elegant and aromatic; it is pleasing on the palate and ranges from dry to sweet. Grape variety specifications

The Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Non-aromatic grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Bolzano, Trento and Belluno, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. The Vigneti delle Dolomiti or Weinberg Dolomiten Spumante and quality Spumante PGI, with the specification of one or more of the indicated grape varieties, is reserved for wines obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape varieties. For Vigneti delle Dolomiti or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI Spumante and quality Spumante wines, reference to the names of two grape varieties is permitted, on the condition that the wine is made with 100% of the indicated grape varieties and that the variety that is least present makes up more than 15% of the total. Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI Aromatic Quality Spumante, including with the specification of the name of the Moscato Giallo grape variety, must be produced with 100% musts and partially fermented musts obtained from the corresponding grape variety. Reference to the names of the grape varieties from which the wine is obtained is not permitted for Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI Vino Passito or Passito.Reference to the names of two of grape varieties is permitted in the design and presentation of Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI wines on the condition that the wine derives exclusively from the two indicated grapes, and that the quantity of grapes produced by each of the varieties is higher than 15% of the total. Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI wines produced as Novello must be obtained from red grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the corresponding provinces, with the prevalence of the Lagrein grape variety for the Province of Bolzano, and the Lagrein and Teroldego grape varieties, individually or combined, for the Province of Trento. Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.

Inter-regional PGIs: Vigneti delle Dolomiti PGI or Weinberg Dolomiten PGI wines are produced with the same characteristics in the provinces of Bolzano and Trento in the Trentino-Alto Adige region and the Province of Belluno in the Veneto region.
