The production area of Valcamonica PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Brescia, in the Lombardy region.
Blends
White, Passito: min. 60% Riesling Renano, Incrocio Manzoni, Müller Thurgau, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties similar in colour and suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 40%.Red: min. 60% Marzemino, Merlot, pure or with the addition of non-aromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties similar in colour and suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 40%.
Description of product typologies
Valcamonica PGI Bianco has a straw- yellow in colour with greenish highlights; the nose offers fragrances of kiwi, lime and almond; it is dry and energetic on the palate, with a fruity finish enhanced by an acidity that stimulates the persistence of the flavour. Valcamonica PGI Rosso is ruby-red in colour with light garnet hues; the nose reveals slightly aromatic sensations, the fruitiness of blackcurrant and black cherry and hints of pepper and brushwood; it is smooth on the palate, taut tannins and good structure and persistence. Valcamonica PGI Passito has a straw-yellow colour with golden highlights; the nose is intense, rich with complex and fruity notes, and offers embracing sensations of ripe apricot; it is sweet, smooth, harmonious and velvety on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Valcamonica PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Grapes similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Valcamonica PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
