The Terre di Veleja PGI is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red and Rosé; Passito (only with indication of grape variety). The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

Production Area

The production area of Terre di Veleja PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Piacenza, in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Blends

White (incl. Semi-Sparkling): min. 60% aromatic Malvasia Bianca di Candia, Trebbiano Romagnolo, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 40%.Red (incl. Semi-Sparkling): min. 70% Barbera, Bonarda, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 30%.Rosé (incl. Semi-Sparkling): min. 60% Barbera, Fortana, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 40%.

Description of product typologies

Terre di Veleja PGI Bianco has a straw-yellow colour; the nose reveals sensations of pineapple, apricot, citrus fruit and cut grass; it is mineral, fresh and balanced on the palate, and can be dry, medium sweet or semi-sweet. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Terre di Veleja PGI Rosso is red in colour, varying in intensity; the nose reveals intense fragrances of crushed flowers and notes of spices, liqueur cherry and hay; it is a full-bodied wine with evident tannins and fruity returns, varying between dry, medium sweet, semi-sweet and sweet. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Terre di Veleja PGI Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity; the nose displays evolving fragrances of wild strawberry and raspberry candy; it is fresh and fragrant on the palate with a light citrusy vein, varying between dry, medium sweet, semi-sweet and sweet. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. The use of artificial gasification is not permitted for Terre di Veleja PGI Semi-Sparkling wines.

Grape variety specifications

The Terre di Veleja PGI with specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyard compounds, in a business environment, for at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. Grapes similar in colour and originating from grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Emilia-Romagna region, max. 15%, can contribute, pure or combined, to the production of the above-mentioned musts and wines. Terre di Veleja PGI wines with specification of grape variety can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine. Terre di Veleja PGI wine with specification of the Muscat grape variety can also be produced as Passito.Terre di Veleja PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the grape variety, as well as the indicated characteristics for the typology of wine.
