The Tarquinia PDO is reserved for the following typologies of wine: White, Red, Rosé, and Novello.

Production Area

The production area of Tarquinia PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Rome and Viterbo, in the Lazio region.

Blends

White (incl. Semi-Sparkling, Semi-Sweet): min. 50% Trebbiano Toscano (locally known as Procanico) and/or Trebbiano Giallo, max.35% individually or combined Malvasia di Candia, Malvasia del Lazio, pure or with the addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 30%, with the exception of Pinot Grigio.Red (incl. Semi-Sweet), Rosé, Novello: min. 60% Sangiovese and Montepulciano, with a minimum of 25% of one of the varieties, max. 25 % Cesanese Comune, with the possible addition of grape berries similar in colour and originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 30%.

Description of product typologies

Tarquinia PDO Bianco has a moderately intense straw-yellow colour; the nose is characterised by fragrances of broom and jasmine, Williams pear and mineral notes; it is lively and dynamic on the palate, with returns of aromatic herbs, good persistence and a long finish. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling and Semi-Sweet wine.Tarquinia PDO Rosso has a vivacious ruby-red colour, varying in intensity; the fruity nose is enriched with traces of cassis, violet and eucalyptus; the fragrances of the nose return on the palate in a warm and embracing structure. It can also be produced as Semi-Sweet wine.Tarquinia PDO Rosé is pink in colour, varying in intensity; the nose reveals pleasant fruity notes and offers good persistence and elegance; it is pleasing, extremely harmonious and balanced on the palate, with well-balanced acidity and structure.Tarquinia PDO Novello has a moderately intense ruby-red colour; the nose is vinous and rich with red fruit; it is lively and harmonious on the palate, with well-defined acidity. The vinification processes must take place within the production area.

The Tarquinia PDO designation can be followed by Vigna (Vineyard) with the relative toponym.
