The production area of Reggiano PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Reggio Emilia, in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Red (incl. Semi-Sparkling), Novello: 30-60% Ancellotta, 40-70%, individually or combined, Lambrusco Salamino, Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco di Sorbara, Malbo gentile, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco Grasparossa, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marzemino, Lambrusco Oliva, Lambrusco Viadanese, Lambrusco a foglia frastagliata (jagged-leaf), Fogarina. White Spumante: 100%, individually or combined, Lambrusco Marani, Lambrusco Maestri, Lambrusco Salamino, Lambrusco Montericco, Lambrusco di Sorbara and Malbo Gentile. The red grapes must be vinified with white winemaking methods.
Description of product typologies
Reggiano PDO Rosso has a bright red colour, varying in intensity; the nose is delicate with notes of vanilla and almond blossom and hints of white apple and pear; it is dry and supple on the palate. It can also be produced as Semi-Sparkling wine.Reggiano PDO Spumante is white to pale straw-yellow in colour and has a fine and persistent perlage; the nose is delicately floral with dense hints of vanilla and a smooth note of bread crust; it is sapid, fresh and harmonious on the palate. Reggiano PDO Novello ranges from bright red to crimson in colour; the nose displays evident fruity notes of raspberry and small forest fruit; it is fresh and lively on the palate, with a strong fruity flavour. At least 50% of the wine used to produce Reggiano PDO Novello must be obtained from the carbonic maceration of the grapes.The use of fermentation in autoclaves or bottles is mandatory for the gasification of Reggiano PDO Spumante wines, according to current regulations on the preparation of sparkling wines.
